Durov, the CEO of Telegram, has been indicted in France and must remain in the country under surveillance

According to Bloomberg, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was indicted by a French court on Wednesday.

Durov has been charged with “complicity in the spread of sexual images of children and other crimes such as drug trafficking on the messaging app,” according to the article.

According to Reuters, Durov has been released but remains under “judicial supervision,” which means he must remain in France. Durov must also pay a deposit of 5 million euros, according to the news agency.

Earlier in the day, Durov was freed by French police and summoned to court. The original arrest stemmed from a broad criminal investigation that included charges that Telegram provided cryptographic tools and services that aided money laundering, child pornography, and drug trafficking.
